Effectiveness of compassion therapy on social adjustment of female prisoners |

Background: Female prisoners are a vulnerable group that prison period has several adverse effects on their lives. Compassion-Therapy is one of the prominent therapies that has proven effective in solving many different problems. The purpose of this study was to determine the effectiveness of therapeutic compassion on the social adjustment of women prisoners Materials and Methods: The present study is a descriptive, semi-experimental, and pre-test and post-test with a control group. The research population was all female prisoners in Rasht in 2016. By available sampling, 30 individuals were assigned randomly in two groups of experimental and control. Both groups completed an emotional cognitive regulation questionnaire before the intervention. The experimental group received eight 90-minute sessions of compassion therapy, but the control group did not receive the intervention. The data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and analyzed by multiple variance analysis and spss18. Results: The mean (SD) age of the experimental group was 32.8 (8.1) years, and the control group was 33.3 (8.6) years old. The mean (SD) of non-social adjustment scores of the experimental group decreased from 16.1 (4.8) in the pre-test to 12.2 (3.9) in the post-test (p < 0.001). While the mean (SD) of the non-social adjustment scores of the control group decreased from 15.7 (4.5) in the pretest to 15.4 (4.3) in the post-test, this change was not statistically significant. Conclusion: The study showed that compassion-based therapy reduced the lack of social adjustment in women prisoners. |
